At the age of 55, August 10, 2004, two weeks to the day, Robert D Shaffer enjoyed his last Adams County Fair. Robert lived all his life in Adams County. Being raised on the farm, he naturally was a member of 4-H and raised and showed cattle. He made sure his three sons would be involved in 4-H and showing cattle for their projects, but not before taking a smaller project which they chose rabbits.

Showing cattle is a family tradition that runs deep for the Shaffer Family. Right now the fifth generation of Shaffers show cattle and continue to be involved in 4-H.
Robert loved the fair and enjoyed helping his friends and neighbors get ready for it. He also met his wife Anne at the fair in 1970.
His youngest son Tyler always remembers his dad having to stop by the milkshake stand before leaving the fair to enjoy a milkshake.
Robert instilled the value of working hard in his four children, but yet made time to enjoy life with his family and friends. Attending the Adams County Fair was the Shaffer's family tradition.
