Miss Adams County Fair Named to Top 15 at State Pageant
Miss Adams County Fair Jersey Hesse was honored as one of 15 finalists during the Miss Illinois County Fair Queen Pageant in Springfield this past weekend. She competed against more than 70 county fair queens from across the state of Illinois. The pageant is the highlight of the weekend-long Illinois Association of Agricultural Fairs annual convention. Hesse says it’s something she’s been working towards since she was crowned in July. “Would I have pictured myself in the top 15 on July 28 when I received the Miss Adams Co. Fair title? Absolutely not,” said Hesse “It happened only with the support of my county, past queens, my directors, and friends and family. If each person hadn't played their part in my journey, I would never even be able to hit center stage with the confidence to represent my amazing county the way they deserve. I wanted to give Adams County the credit they so overly deserve from their support by receiving top 15.” Hesse says the overwhelming encouragement from everyone at home played a big part in her performance. “Adams County always had my back and was always in the back of my mind as I competed on stage,” said Hesse. “Every appearance I gave that weekend was for those who supported me first. I needed to give back to my community with everything I had in me that night. I knew that my county would be proud of me, simply because I did not hold anything back.” Hesse is a freshman Agriculture Communications student at the University of Illinois - Urbana Champaign. She now returns to college and looks forward to the rest of her year serving and representing the community as Miss Adams County. “Local county fair attendees know me from the show barn and my ability to control a thousand pound animal with a halter. Now as Miss Adams County, they know my background and have never stereotyped me into being a diva that is rumored to follow the crown. Of all my years attending the fair, each and every queen we’ve had was down to earth, easy to communicate with, and always supported their fellow queens and county. That is a reputation that I love to now be a part of. My work at state may be over, but I still return home as Miss Adams County Fair queen. That title is one that I will cherish along with the memories I’ve been able to make, but I will never forget what it’s taught me about myself.” Hesse is the 19 year-old daughter of Nicole Hesse, and Curt and Amanda Hesse of Ursa. She lives in Ursa and graduated from Unity High School in May 2021. She is the 56th Adams County Fair Queen to be crowned since the pageant began in 1965. Hesse has worked for several area farms for many years. In her spare time she tends to cattle on her own family farm and enjoys showing cattle at area county fairs. She has been showing cattle at the Adams County Fair for 12 years. January 14, 2022Miss Adams County Fair to Compete in State Pageant this WeekendMiss Adams County Fair Jersey Hesse embarks on a new adventure this week as she leaves to compete in the Miss Illinois County Fair Queen Pageant in Springfield. She will compete against county fair queens from all over the state vying for the title of Miss Illinois County Fair.
Queen Jersey says it’s something she’s been working towards since she was crowned in July. “Representing Adams County is a new found passion that I’ve developed over the months after receiving this title,” said Hesse. “The amount of support I’ve gained from my community and family is truly a blessing during this time of competition. I will compete to the best of my ability, but no matter the outcome I know I have the support of those back home.” Hesse has also been quite busy as a freshman Agriculture Communications student at the University of Illinois - Urbana Champaign. She says while this weekend is something she’s been working towards, she’s looking forward to a new experience in Springfield. “I am most looking forward to the experience I will gain from this competition,” said Hesse. “The atmosphere will be much different than our stage and dirt track back home in Adams County. However, I know that this is a once in a lifetime experience, and I can’t wait to represent Adams County. I also look forward to coming home and encouraging other young girls to take that first step out of their comfort zone to compete as well.” Hesse is the 19 year-old daughter of Nicole Hesse, and Curt and Amanda Hesse of Ursa. The Illinois County Fair Queen Pageant will be held Saturday and Sunday at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Springfield. Hesse has worked for several area farm for many years. In her spare time she tends to cattle on her own family farm and enjoys showing cattle at area county fairs. She has been showing cattle at the Adams County Fair for 12 years. When she isn’t working she enjoys many hobbies including hunting, fishing, boating, showing cattle and baking.
