History of Adams Country Fair

First Adams County Fair - 1941
A one day event "on the
square" in Mendon, IL
-
The next year The "Fair" moved then to
the Mendon High school grounds and stayed there until 1950.

A 30 acres tract of land was purchased in 1950 on
the Mendon-Fowler blacktop and a new charter was issued changing the
fair name to Adams County Fair Association. An additional 50 acres
was purchased at the north side of the grounds.

Buildings on the grounds Started with a metal
Quonset. Tents have been replaced with permanent livestock barns,
tiny office expanded, a grandstand added and improved through the
years. Roads and streets have been improved, a second entrance added
as well as large restroom facilities .

The Adams County fair has come a long way from
the one day event to the seven-day fair ranked among the best in the
state and the mid-west.
